How we met:
I met Jen in Nora Fretto’s car to go to my first women’s conference. She told the same story when she commented on Ryan’s post about me on friendproject, but this is how I remember it. It had to have been Spring – maybe April – and we piled into Nora’s car. I can’t remember who else was in the car, but I recall they were friends that I knew. And Jen joined in for the ride. I remember her saying that this was the first time she was able to leave little Erin at home and that she was excited and a bit nervous about the whole thing. She chatted it up in a car of ladies I don’t think she knew well at all. I don’t remember what we all talked about, but it was a blast.
Three things I appreciate about Jen:
1. Jen is an awesome mom. With three kids now, she epitomizes a woman who is totally vested in her children’s development. She rules at homeschooling and teaching her kids in all areas of life. And her kids are great to be around
2. Her sincerity. Jen truly cares about people and their lives. I can’t tell you how many times we have had meaningful and sincere conversations about things going on in our lives. I can be completely open and transparent with her and vice versa.
3. Her insight into Scriptures. She finds the profound where I couldn’t. I remember in our ladies discipleship group she was going through Samuel, a book I had never read at that point, and she would find the must interesting observations and gather such a rich understanding of what was taking place. Her mental adeptness is inspiring to me.
My favorite memory of Jen:
Well, I have many great memories of Jen. Having known her really well now for close to 3-4 years, we have shared in playdates, bible studies and coffee cups. But my favorite memory is when we volunteered in the nursery on Sunday morning. We would have such personal conversations and times of encouragement. I will never forget the discussions we would have about being a mom. When Erin was born, she had made the decision to stay at home with her. But only for a short while because for financial reasons it didn’t look like she could for a long period of time. And then the Lord began to provide, and provide and keep providing and she hasn’t needed to go back to work at all. Going on 7 years now I believe. On those Sunday mornings in the nursery she would encourage me in my career and at the time I was looking for work and wrestling with the desire to be at home with my kids. Her wisdom and counsel taught me so many things, gave me much perspective as a young working mom, and was a foundation block to my own stepping out of my career to be an at-home mom homeschooling my little ones. Her testimony of God’s provision for her family encouraged me to trust the Lord to provide. As I saw God bless her and her family for her obedience to being a mom, it inspired me all the more to step out in obedience. Jen Fee is an amazing woman. Get a cup of coffee with her if you ever get a chance.
